Guitar is one of the beautiful ,musical instrument to play with. A guitar has 6 strings, it is typically played by both hands by strumming or plucking the strings with either a guitar pick or the finger(s)/fingernails of one hand, while simultaneously fretting

( pressing the strings against the frets) with fingers of the other hand.

A guitar is of 3 types:

  1. Classic

  2. Acoustic

  3. Electric

Only difference between Classic and acoustic is that the former uses nylon strings, while latter use steel strings.

Holding Guitar: Position to hold the guitar is with the head on the left side, i.e you will press the strings with your left hand and do the stru,,ing with your right hand.

Let's talk about the terms before we begin to learn guitar;

  1. Strings: Strings are the most important part of a guitar. There are six strings in a guitar. we start counting strings from the bottom. So while holding the guitar the string at the bottom is the first string and the string at the top is the 6th string. they are named as

Chord : E,A,D,G,B,E

No. : 6,5,4,3,2,1

the difference between 2E strings is the 1st is minor and the 6th is the major

2. Pick: Pick or plectrum is a thin piece of plastic or other material shaped like a pointed triangle. the size, shape and width may vary considerably. this flat tool is used to pluck or strum the strings.

4 Strumming: when you listen songs played on guitar, you love the tuning, the way it is played. This is what we call strumming. So. strumming is a way of playing a stringed instrument such as a guitar, ukulele or mandolin. A strum or stroke is a sweeping action where a finger or plectrum brushes over several strings to generate sound. It is played by moving hand up and down. You can develop your own strumming based on the effect you want to give in the song. Basic Strumming pattern is "DUDU" where D stands for Down and U stands for UP.
